Escalating Bomb and Death Threats Targeting Our Company and Government Leaders Must Stop

For nearly two years, our company has been targeted by over 150 hoax bomb threats, mass shooting threats, threats to rape and murder our staff, and even threats to kill the children of our performers. These threats are sent to our headquarters, the schools our student performers attend, our families, the theaters where we perform, and even supportive government officials.

Over the past month, at least six heads of state—including the prime ministers of Denmark, Canada and Australia—received similar bomb threats.

All of them carry the same demand: cancel Shen Yun and silence our voice.

The source of these threats is clear.

Taiwanese police have traced some threats back to Xi’an, China, and they align with dozens of letters and emails from Chinese diplomats to theaters and government officials demanding Shen Yun be cancelled. There is no doubt these threats originate from communist China.

Why would the CCP go to such lengths to stop a dance company?

Through our performances, Shen Yun reveals the beauty and spiritual depth of China’s authentic traditional culture—a culture the CCP has spent decades trying to erase.

We also tell the true stories of the CCP’s brutal persecution of Falun Gong, a Buddhist-based spiritual discipline practiced by tens of millions in China and in over 100 countries worldwide. This horrific campaign has been raging across China for a quarter century and involves mass detention, widespread torture, deaths from torture, and forced organ harvesting.

More than 90 Shen Yun performers have had family members imprisoned, tortured, or even killed in China simply for their faith.

You see, the true nature and scale of atrocities committed against Falun Gong are so vicious and pervasive that the CCP will resort to any means necessary to silence people who are bringing this truth to the world, which is precisely what our performance is doing.

And our message is working.

Several governments have passed laws to stop forced organ harvesting in China. Last year, the U.S. House of Representatives unanimously passed the Falun Gong Protection Act. And, Shen Yun continues to sell out shows, performing for more than a million people around the world each year.

It is outrageous and completely unacceptable that Shen Yun, an American company based in New York, would be targeted by these death threats and for this long.

It is outrageous and unacceptable that the heads of state and other prominent leaders of Western democracies would be targeted with the same intimidation tactics.

This must stop.

We cannot allow Beijing to use threats of violence and intimidation to dictate what shows we watch, what stores are told, or how we look at the world.

This is not just about protecting Shen Yun. This is about protecting the rights of free societies to not be bullied into silence by the largest totalitarian regime on Earth.

We call on Western governments to strongly condemn these threats, use all available counter-terrorism resources to identify the perpetrators inside China, and bring them to justice.
